About Versailles, KY - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Versailles, Kentucky is located just off the Martha Layne Collins Blue Grass Parkway in Woodford County, approximately thirteen miles west of the city of Lexington.  Versailles was founded on June 23, 1792 on land owned by child Hezekiah Briscoe, who was orphaned in 1850 and under the guardianship of Major Marquis Calmes.  Named after the city of Versailles, France in honor of General Marquis de Lafayette, Versailles was incorporated as a city on February 13, 1837.  Presently home to a population of approximately 8,500 residents, Versailles is a quiet, quaint bedroom community that is part of the Lexington-Fayette metropolitan area and serves as the county seat for Woodford County.

History buffs interested in the history of Versailles will enjoy visiting the Woodford County Kentucky Historical Society, located in the Big Springs Church building, circa 1819.  The building houses the society’s historical museum and genealogy library and features permanent and changing exhibits that include local artifacts, period household wares, and civil war memorabilia, as well as research materials on history and events of public record.  The Jack Jouett House, circa 1797, was the homestead of Captain Jack Jouett, who was famous for his forty-mile ride through the Virginia backwoods to warn Governor Thomas Jefferson of approaching British troops, thereby preventing capture of some of the American Revolution’s most important political leaders.

The Bluegrass Scenic Railroad and Museum, which features a museum and scenic train rides, is a great way to spend an afternoon.  The railroad offers seven mile, one hour rides through the scenic horse farm country of central Kentucky and takes riders over Young’s High Bridge on the Kentucky River.  For a touch of the arts, the Woodford Theater, located in the Falling Springs Recreation Center, is a 300-seat community theater that features musical and theatrical performances produced entirely through the efforts of local artists and volunteers.

With its rich history, friendly citizens, strong leadership, dedicated service organizations, and enjoyable seasonal weather, the city of Versailles offers everything you would expect and more from small town living at its best!
